INTRODUCTION:

A little about why I have chosen to Rescue such an Amazing Breed.
K9 Services German Shepherd Rescue was founded in 2005 after the passing of my beloved Service Dog, Cream. Cream crossed over the Rainbow Bridge 2 weeks before his 4th Birthday due to an unexpected, unexplained death, which for me was and still is a tragic loss. I still feel the pain even today. However, with that said, Cream inspires me to do all I can for all German Shepherds that find their way to our Rescue doors. I will continue to save and rescue all in Cream's memory.
I have also loved German Shepherds since I was a child. I was raised by Visually impaired Grandparents. My Grandfather founded the Blind Bowlers Association which led me to many years hanging out in bowling alleys, playing with all the Guide dogs, which consisted mainly of all German Shepherds!

The Lions Club helped visually impaired people obtain Guide Dogs through Fidelco and they only train and use German Shepherd dogs. How lucky was I! I started training and learning canine behavior since I was 8 years old and I am now fortunate enough to be able to incorporate this into my life's passion. Saving Shepherds and facilitating a match through fate. I will always consider myself just the messenger, as I believe the dogs arriving into Rescue camp all have a story and let me know if they want to be a working K9 or a part of a family.

I am a certified Behavioral Consultant and Canine Trainer. I have worked in a shelter environment for many years and was saddened to see so many animals put to sleep because of the ignorance of society, and just people in general. This is what inspired me even more to do the best I can to help this amazing breed find their way to the best life they could ever have dreamed of.

This rescue organization is an IRS Tax Exempt; recognized under code: 501(c)(3), non-profit Charity that is funded solely by private donations. All funds generated from our rescued dogs go directly back into the rescue. It costs money and time to rehab displaced, traumatized, shepherds and we appreciate all support that we are able to give back to this majestic breed.

We wouldn't be able to rescue and re-home any German Shepherds without the dedication from our much needed and loved volunteers, and adopters. Thanks to everyone involved! With that said, I encourage you to visit our About the Breed page before you take a look at some of our beautiful shepherds that currently need a forever, loving home. I hope you find one that captures your heart and doesn't let go.

Sincerely,

Nila Walden-Hughes
President & Founder

OUR MISSION STATEMENT:
It is with this Rescue's desire and intention that we foster, rehabilitate, re-home, displaced German shepherd dogs saved from an animal shelter environment or from an owner surrender agreement. After complete medical vetting, obedience training, behavioral evaluations, we then take time matching and placing our dogs with our perspective adopters. Some of our dogs are placed into working Service K9 jobs, i.e. Police, Search and Rescue, emotional support, or placed into wonderful family companion homes. In addition we strive to educate the public in understanding the nobility, intelligence, and loyalty that is unique to this breed.
